Woofter comes on board as new Warm Springs Intermediate Assistant Principal

Warm Springs Intermediate School in Morgan County has a new second in command, as of the start of July. The school serves county students in grades three through five.

Joy Woofter was hired as the new Warm Springs Intermediate School Assistant Principal effective July 2. Woofter has served in Berkeley County Schools for 17 years since 2005. Former Intermediate School Assistant Principal Christie Butts transferred to a position as the new Pleasant View Elementary Principal.

Woofter was employed with Berkeley County Schools right after her graduation from college. In her first position in Berkeley County, she was a special education teacher for grades K- 3 for two years. She then taught kindergarten at Opequon Elementary for 14 years.

Woofter next served as an interim assistant principal at Eagle School for four months and to fill in. She also taught third grade regular education for one year.

Education, skills

Woofter received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education from Glenville State College with majors in Multi-Categorical LD, BD and MI (Learning Disability, Behavior Disorders and Mental Impairments) (k-adult) and Elementary Education (K-6) She has a Masters of Education and Instructional Leadership from West Virginia State College.

Joy Woofter was employed as the new Warm Springs Intermediate School Assistant Principal.

Woofter’ s resume lists skills that include differentiated instruction, team collaboration, technology integration, coordinating 504 plans, discipline management, staff support, parent communication and partner- ship, positive reinforcement and school climate enhancement.

Her stated objective is “creating a vibrant school environment built on collaboration, communication and inclusivity” where she can apply her skills in “nurturing a supportive atmosphere conducive to academic success and student growth.”

“My goal is to cultivate a positive environment where mutual respect and support flourish, creating a conducive learning environment for all stakeholders,” Woofter added.

Woofter said she would be working with Intermediate School Principal Rebecca Huber in many areas but would be in charge of discipline and 504 plans and also working some with special education. Huber has stressed that they’re a team.

“I’ m looking forward to working with her and learning from her,” Woofter said of Huber.

Excited about her job

Woofter said she’ s really excited about her new position at the intermediate school. She’ s already met some of the staff. Everyone has been welcoming and positive and Woofter is looking forward to building a home there.

Woofter said she’s looking forward to making a positive impact.

“Community culture and climate is very important to me,” she said.

“I’ m looking forward to getting started and being part of the Warm Springs Intermediate School family. I promise to do the best I can to serve the kids and the community,” Woofter said.

Woofter’ s first official days on the job will be attending training at an Administrator’ s Academy on July 31 and August 1.
