Some 80 public water meters have been replaced over the last two months said Berkeley Springs Water Works superintendent Rick Mayhew.
He said the Warm Springs Public Service District general manager Scott Crunkleton brought it to the town’s attentions and said the meters could be off.
The sewer department uses water department metering to issue their wastewater billing.
At the July 16 Town of Bath council meeting, Councilman Dave O’Connell, who heads up the water department committee, said some water meters were not working properly and “messes with the sewer charge.”
“The gears or batteries may be going south,” O’Connell said.
Mayhew said on Friday that it is a good practice to replace the meters every 10 years.
“The oldest ones are replaced first,” he said.
