Seasoned Bath interim police chief comes with experience

by Trish Rudder

Berkeley Springs’ new interim chief of police is a retired Berkeley County Sheriff’s Department Captain with 28 years of law enforcement service.

Ron Gardner, full-time patrol officer, took over lead of the town department after former chief Bill Carper resigned in May.

He has been with the department since April 2023, starting out as a part time patrolman before becoming full time.

Gardner served four years in the U.S. Marine Corp. and was stationed in Beirut, Lebanon.

Protecting the Town of Bath is Gardner’s fundamental principal.

“We’re going to try to continue what our former police chief was doing for the community and keep the town safe,” Gardner said last week.

He said the bypass will be good for the town since he believed outside influence brings drugs to the town.

“The bypass will help our small town aura,” Gardner said.
