Berkeley Springs, Paw Paw & Warm Springs Middle School athletics preparing for fall sports opening

As the summer days wind down, student-athletes in Berkeley Springs, Paw Paw and W arm Springs Middle School are gearing up for an exciting fall sports season. From volleyball and cross country to golf and football, to soccer and cheer, here’s a comprehensive look at the upcoming schedules and try- out information.

Important Requirements for All Athletes

All athletes trying out for fall sports must have:

• A minimum 2.0 GP A from the second semester of the 2023-2024 school year.

• An updated WVSSAC physical form with signatures from a doctor, parents and the athlete.

Warm Springs Middle School Athletics Volleyball

Coach Jessica Close has scheduled flex practices for the Warm Springs MiddleSchool Volleyball team on the following dates:

July 29: 6-7:30 p.m.

July 31: 6-7:30 p.m.

August 1: 9-10:30 a.m.

August 6: 9-10:30 a.m.

August 8: 9-10:30 a.m.

August 9: 1-2:30 p.m.

Tryouts are set for Monday, August 12: Incoming sixth grade: 3-4:30 p.m.; Incoming seventh-eighth grades: 4:30-6 p.m.

Cross Country

Warm Springs Middle School Cross Country practices will officially begin on August 5, with times yet to be determined.

Golf

Golf practices at W arm Springs Middle School also start on August 5, with times to be determined.

Berkeley Springs High School Athletics Volleyball

Tryouts for Berkeley Springs High School Volleyball will be held on August 5, 6 and 7 from 5-8 p.m. at the Berkeley Springs High School Gym.

Golf

Berkeley Springs High School Golf practices will commence on August 5, with specific times to be announced.

Cross Country

The Cross Country team at Berkeley Springs High School will start practices on August 5, with times to be determined. Practices will held at the track.

Football

Currently, the football team is lifting on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 8-11 a.m. The first official day of practice is August 5 at 8 a.m., and players should report to the varsity locker room. Cheerleading

Cheer conditioning will take place on July 15-19, 22- 24 and 29-31 from 8:30- 10:30 a.m. Official practices begin on August 5, with times to be determined.

Boys Soccer

Boys Soccer conditioning begins July 22 through August 2, Monday to Friday, from 6-8 p.m. at the WSMS Field. Official practices and tryouts at WSMS Field start on August 5 and run until August 12, Monday to Friday from 6-8 p.m., with Saturday times to be determined. Girls Soccer

Girls Soccer activities will be held at WSIS. Condition- ing sessions are scheduled in July on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 6-7:30 p.m. on the following dates: July 10, 12, 15, 17, 19, 22, 24 and 26. A pre-season camp is set for July 29-August 2 from 6-7:30 p.m. Official practices begin August 5 from 5-7 p.m. and will be held Monday through Saturday. Saturday practices are from 9-11 a.m.

Paw Paw School Athletics Volleyball

Paw Paw Volleyball will start on August 5 at 4:45 p.m. for girls in grades 9-12 and August 12 at 4:45 p.m. for girls in grades 6-8. All players should enter through the girl’s locker room door. For questions, contact Coach Holly Palmer at 301-707- 2598.

Cross Country

Middle and high school athletes interested in Cross Country at Paw Paw Schools should attend the first practice on August 7 at 4 p.m.

As these schools prepare for the fall season, student- athletes are welcome to participate and bring their best to the field. The official fall sports preview will be out after the first week of practices and tryouts.
