Leslie Lyle Avey

1931-2024

Leslie Lyle Avey, 92, Athens, passed away Sunday June 30, 2024, at his residence.

Born July 31, 1931, in Hedgesville, W.Va., the son of the late Paul R. and Edna Mohler Avey.

He was a U.S. Army Veteran, and a retired Supervisor at General Telephone Co.

He was a member of the American Legion in Berkeley Springs, W.Va., the Masons of Portsmouth, Ohio, Aurora Lodge #48, the Calvary Commandery of Portsmouth, Ohio, a Royal Arch Mason of Ohio, Solomon’s Council #79, The Calvary United Methodist Church of Great Cacapon, W.Va. and attended Albany Methodist Church.

Leslie is survived by daughters Deborah L. (Rick) Gilmore of Reedsville, Ohio and Vicki A. (Rick) Johnson of Athens, Ohio; a grandson Christopher M. Johnson; and a great-grandson Christopher Bryce Johnson; sisters Helen Youngblood, and Eileen Mason; and special friends Sam and Zelda Bennett, and Bill and Cat Davidson.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Fayme Marlene Avey in 2011, siblings Paul R. Avey, Jr., Juanita Johnson, Max Avey, Rollen Avey and Lewis A. Avey.

As per his wishes there will be no services observed.
