1936-2024
Y. Rhea Spears, age 88, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., died Wednesday, June 26, 2024 at the Berkeley Springs Healthcare Center.
Born May 14, 1936 in Duffield, Va., he was the son of the late John Wesley “John Penny” Spears, Sr. and the late Bertie Ethel Vaughn Spears.
He attended Love Assembly of God Church in Berkeley Springs.
Rhea worked as a painter. He enjoyed spending time with his family, singing, yodeling, listening to music and building old cars and trucks.
Rhea is survived by his wife of 64 years Nannie Mae Cameron at home, three sons, Bobby Rhea Spears and his wife, Tracy of Hagerstown, Md., David Lee Spears and his wife, Jennifer of Old Town, Md. and Ronald Patrick Spears of Berkeley Springs, 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one great grandson, three sisters, Betty Sue Booth, Norma Bernice Parker and Charlotte Katherine Britt and four brothers, John Wesley Spears, Jr., Earl Chester Spears, Paul Curtis Spears and James Parmer “Jimmy” Spears.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 6, 2024 at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs, W.Va., with Pastor Dave Kidwell officiating. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1 p.m.-3 p.m. and 5 p.m.-7 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Rhea’s name may be made directly to the funeral home to help defray funeral expenses.
