Excavation and construction work continue at multiple points along the 3.4-mile path of the four-lane U.S. 522 Bypass. Earlier this month, a portion of Johnson’s Mill Road was closed off to allow for construction and paving of the bypass across the county roadway. Division of Highways plans call for a “level crossing” at Johnson’s Mill Road. That means when the bypass is open, motorists on Johnson’s Mill Road will stop going east or west, then cross the four-lane bypass to continue onward.
On Martinsburg Road, bypass crews have added one additional lane and will pave another to allow traffic on and off the bypass via ramps at that location.
