The Rev. Mary Stevens Trail
1937-2024
The Rev. Mary Stevens Trail, 86, of Ridgeley, died Saturday, February 17, 2024 at Peace Healthcare at Lions Center.
Born May 6, 1937 in Hendersonville, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Jack S. Gebe and Ada Mae (Rogers) Gebe.
She was also preceded in death by her first husband, The Rev. Glenn F. Stevens, Sr.; sons, Timothy and Richard Stevens; sisters, Joann Cox and Anna Stevens; and a brother, Jack Gebe. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She was a graduate of Edneyville High School in North Carolina. She continued her education at Shepherd University, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree. She then received her Master of Divinity Degree from the United Seminary in Dayton, Ohio. She had worked for the Board of Childcare in Baltimore.
As a licensed Minister and Ordained Elder, she served as pastor of Marvin Chapel United Methodist Church, W.Va. In Ohio, she served at New Moorefield UMC and Fletcher Chapel UMC. She also served as pastor at Union Chapel, Alpine, Highland and Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Churches in Berkeley Springs, as well as Holy Cross UMC in Carpendale. Later, she served Shawboro UMC in North Carolina. Mary was involved in prison ministry and the walk to Emmaus.
She was a member of the Order of St. Luke the Physician and AARP.
Mary was married to The Rev. Glenn F. Stevens, Sr. for 48 years until his death in February of 2005. At his death, he was Vice President of Gospel Trail Ministries, and she was Secretary.
On May 29, 2006, she was married to The Rev. Gary W. Trail, Sr., who survives her.
She is also survived by three sons, David Stevens, Mark Stevens and Glenn F. Stevens, II; two stepchildren, Michele Fisher and Gary W. Trail, II; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2024 at 11 a.m., at Union Chapel United Methodist Church, 10123 Valley Road, Berkeley Springs, WV 25411.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
According to her wishes, she was cremated and her cremated remains will be interred with her son Timothy in Fruitland Cemetery in North Carolina.
A graveside service will be planned for a later date.
The Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., Cumberland, is assisting the family with arrangements.
