Brick pathway planned for German Cemetery

by Trish Rudder

A brick walkway using historic pavers from the old brick roadway on Fairfax Street is being planned for the German Cemetery.

At the March 5 Bath Town Council meeting, the council unanimously  approved the Foxglove Garden Club request to use the pavers for the historic cemetery between South Green and Mercer streets.

Foxglove Garden Club member Linda Lockhart said last week that the walkway will be placed in the cemetery from the archway entrance on Green St. to the archway entrance on Mercer St.

David Stohl of Third Pig Masonry who installed the brick wall at the cemetery will install the three-feet wide walkway.

Spring flowers will be planted on the sides of the walkway, Lockhart said.

The garden club is applying for a grant to cover the estimated cost of $19,000.

The Mercer St. archway entrance at the German Cemetery is to have a brick walkway in the cemetery and will end at the Green St. archway entrance.
