Boil water alert lifted after repairs to broken water line

by Trish Rudder

Berkeley Springs Water Works (BSWW), the town-owned water department issued a notice on Thursday, February 29 that the boil water alert was lifted for those customers affected by the water line break on Monday, February 26.

The customers involved were in the areas of U.S. 522 South from Winchester Grade Road to Ridersville Cycle and developments just off U.S. 522.

The notice said the drinking water problem was corrected and was no longer necessary to boil water before using.

Town of Bath Councilman Tom Hall, who chairs the Water Committee, said on Sunday that the Berkeley Springs Water Works was not notified that construction work was to be done by a private contractor on February 26.

Normally, water company crew members would be on site when hole drilling was to take place, Hall said.

He said a miscommunication caused the problem and he hopes the water department will be notified in the future before private work is done near a public water line.
