Water main break causes boil water notice south of town

by Trish Rudder

The Berkeley Springs Water Works, the town-owned public water department, issued a boil water notice on Monday, February 26 for select water customers located more than two miles south of town along U.S. 522 due to a water main break. They said the break was caused by bypass construction work in the area. On Tuesday morning, crews were still working to fully restore the water line.

Town councilwoman and water department committee member Rebecca MacLeod confirmed the water line break on Monday afternoon.

The line break was on U.S. 522 by Winchester Grade Road that affects customers on Valley Road South, according to the Town of Bath.

The boil water notice instructions said to boil the water for drinking and cooking until further notice.

Phone calls from the water department to customers went out to notify them of the boil water alert. Customers who have questions can call 304-258-1290.

The water department serves about 1,400 customers both inside the Town of Bath and into the county.
