Paw Paw Volleyball earns win over Hyndman and Meadow Bridge

The Paw Paw Lady Pirates volleyball team were back on the court this past week when they hosted the Hyndman Hornets out of Pennsylvania. The Lady Pirates wasted no time in establishing control as they swept the Hornets 3-0 (25-9, 25-16 and 25-10).

Paw Paw was led by Karynn Kerns (8 service points, 1 kill and 4 aces), Kelsey Hayes (8 service points, 2 kills and 2 aces), Pricilla Corbin (8 service points, 3 kills and 5 aces), Miah Smith (5 service points, 1 ace and 12 assists), Britney Ramos (4 service points and 1 ace), Kyndal Corbett (4 service points), Lydia Ross (4 service points, 1 kill and 1 ace), Abby Williams (3 service points), Katelynn Henderson (3 service points) and Myley Mullins (1 service point, 1 kill and 1 ace).

“Tonight was definitely a team effort, they all played as one on the floor,” stated Coach Holly Palmer.

This past Saturday, September 9 the Lady Pirates traveled to River View High School in McDowell County, with the opportunity to face Meadow Bridge (A), River View (A), Westside (AA) and Mingo County (AA). Scores and stats are below.

Game 1 Paw Paw 2 Meadow Bridge 0 (21-10, 21-17)

Britney Ramos and Shayla Tanouye led the Pirates with 7 service points each. Ramos also added 1 kill. Tanouye had 1 kill and 7 aces.

Miah Smith had 5 service points, 1 kill; Kyndal Corbett had 4 service points, 1 ace and 1 kill.

Game 2 Paw Paw 0 and River View 2 (15-21, 20-21)

Pricilla Corbin led the Pirates with 9 service points, 2 aces; Karynn Kerns had 5 service points, 1 kill and 2 aces; Shayla Tanouye had 4 service points, 1 ace.

Game 3Paw Paw 0 and Westside 2 (15-21, 13-21)

Karynn Kerns and Miah Smith each had 3 service points, Kerns added 2 aces; Shayla Tanouye and Pricilla Corbin each added 1 service point.

In pool play the score was capped at 21.

In the consolation round the Lady Pirates face Mingo County.

Myley Mullins led the Pirates with 6 service points, 1 ace; Shayla Tanouye had 3 service points, 2 kills, 1 ace; Pricilla Corbin had 3 service points, 1 kill, 1 ace; Karynn Kerns had 3 service points; Miah Smith and Kelsey Hayes each added 2 service points.

“I am extremely proud of these girls. They came into the tournament not knowing what to expect from their opponents. As you can see by the scores they didn’ t go down without a fight,” stated Coach Palmer.
