Indians pick up wins over Petersburg and Keyser

The Berkeley Springs Indians soccer team hosted the Petersburg Vikings last Tuesday, September 5 at Morgan Field in a sectional match up. Petersburg had the Indians on the ropes in the first half taking a 4-2 lead at the half.

The Indians made some adjustments at the half and came roaring back in the second half to stun the Vikings 10-5 to earn their first win of the season. Senior Axel Robles and newcomer Javi Hernanz each had three goals each for their first ever hat tricks.

Deven Stone and another newcomer Yun Changjae both had two goals each. Yun (3 assists), Hernanz (2 assists) and Brody Beal (1 assist) helped the Indians scoring.

Gavin Rucker (40 minutes in goal with 2 saves) and Kyle Bland (40 minutes in goals with 2 saves) played well in the net for Berkeley Springs.

On Thursday, September 7 the Indians traveled to Keyser for another important sectional contest with the Golden Tornado. Both teams battled it out trying to take control of the game. Berkeley Springs got a goal from Axel Robles off a beautiful assist by Javi Hernanz. Then later in the game Hernanz hit a wide-open penalty kick to secure the 2-1 win for the Indians.

Goalkeeper Kyle Bland played 80 minutes in goal and recorded 10 saves for the Indians.

Berkeley Springs (2-4) will be back on the pitch this Tuesday, September 12 when they travel to Frankfort for a 7 p.m., contest. Then on Saturday, September 16 the Indians will travel to East West Stadium in Fairmont, for a 1 p.m., contest with the East Fairmont Bees.
