1958-2023

Mary Mae “Sissy” Crawford passed on to glory while surrounded by her husband and children at home on Thursday, August 31, 2023 in Hedgesville, W.Va.

She was born on August 24, 1958 in Martinsburg, W.Va. to the late Richard H. Wood and Thelma Dick Wood.

Mary was a member of the Musselman High School Class of 1976. While in high school, Mary was crowned Musselman’s Queen of Charm and was active in 4-H, color guard, and local church camps.

Mary started her banking career shortly after school and served the local community and neighboring areas in the mortgage industry for 40 years while employed at Suburban National Bank, Shenandoah Federal Bank, Old National Bank, One Valley Bank and BB&T.

Mary was a dual member of Snyder’s Bible Chapel and Central Chapel. She was active in Snyder’s praise team and served through the years as a Sunday School teacher, youth group leader, vacation Bible school leader, Joy El Bible Adventure listener, church secretary and financial secretary.

Sissy was dating the love of her life by graduation in 1976 and married William Scott Crawford on September 19, 1981. Together they had two children. As a couple and later as a family, they were inseparable and shared countless adventures together making memories. Mary was crowned “Grammy” in 2003 and found her deepest passion in doting on five grandsons and supporting them in every facet of their busy lives.

In addition to her husband, Mary is survived by her daughter Jessica and husband Joshua Clark of Berkeley Springs, W.Va. and grandsons Tyler, Gabriel and Daniel; her son William Ryan and wife Abi Crawford of Hedgesville, W.Va. and grandsons William Wade and Hank; mother-in-law Thelma “Timmie” Ryan Crawford of Hedgesville, W.Va.; sister Debbie Frye and husband Jerry (dec’d), brother Doug Wood and wife Kathy, brother David Wood and wife Sandy, and sister Ellen Boyd and husband Steve, all of Hedgesville, W.Va. and countless cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her father-in-law William “Bill” Crawford, and her brother Charles “Chuckie” Wood and wife, Missie.

The family received friends on Tuesday, September 5, 2023 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home. Mary’s celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, September 6, 2023 at 11 a.m. at Central Chapel, 2546 Back Creek Valley Road, Hedgesville, W.Va.

Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow.
