This past Saturday morn
ing, August 26, the members and coaches of the Berkeley Springs Indians cross country team hit the road to Bridgeport for the running of the Charles Point Invitational. This was the opening meet for the long-distance runners who had put in a lot of miles and training to prepare for the season opener.
On the girl’s side the Lady Indians finished in fifth place as a team. Senior Audrey Helmick led the way, finishing in tenth place with a time of 23:55 to earn medalist honors. Freshmen Isabelle Bingaman (19th place, 27:42) and Katie Risinger (23rd place, 28:21) performed well for Coach Helmick’s squad. Charity Brown (31st place, 30:23), Eva Sealey (36th place, 33:09) and Cheyenne Lewis (45th place, 39:39) rounded out the runners for Berkeley Springs.
On the boy’s side the Indians finished in eighth place in an event that had 92 runners. Berkeley Springs was led by LJ Sealey (47th place, 22:25), Josh W alls (53rd place, 22:45), Ethan Rawlings (61st place, 23:59), Haven Ailor (65th place, 24:37), Jake Risinger (68th place, 25:03), and Liam Stewart (75th place, 25:44). Rawlings and Ailor are freshmen along with Stewart who had never ran in a high school meet before.
Berkeley Springs will be back on the run this Saturday, September 2, in Brunswick, Md., for the Zumbach Invitational.
Paw Paw Pirates
The Paw Paw Pirates cross country team joined their Morgan County counterparts, the Berkeley Springs Indians, at Bridgeport, WV for the Charles Pointe Invitational.
Paw Paw has a team of four runners so they would not be able to get a team score. However, Donovan Tanouye finished in fourth place with a time of 17:57 to earn medalist honors.
Andrew Harrold (41st place, 21:52), RJ Ryan (60th place, 23:45) and Greyson Corbett (82nd place, 28:03) rounded out the Pirate runners.
Paw Paw will be back in action this coming Saturday, September 2, at the Interstate Classic held at Clear Spring High School in Clear Spring, Md.
