School board hires teachers, academic coaches; accepts resignations

The Morgan County School Board employed new teachers, long-term substitutes and academic coaches at their August 1 meeting.  They also accepted some professional resignations:

Becky Harden resigned as Warm Springs Middle School Assistant Principal effective at the end of August 3.

Pamela Shirley was hired as a Berkeley Springs High School multi-categorical special education teacher with autism starting with the 2023-2024 school year.

Jessica Davy was employed as a Warm Springs Middle School sixth grade English/language arts teacher beginning with the 2023-2024 school year.

Christina Vogt was hired as a Warm Springs Middle School seventh grade math teacher starting with the 2023-2024 school year.

Adelai Anstine was employed as a Widmyer Elementary first grade teacher beginning with the 2023-2024 school year.

Long-term substitutes

The following long-term substitute teachers and counselor were employed for the 2023-2024 school year or until a fully certified candidate is employed:

Suzanne Burhoe was hired as a Berkeley Springs High School long-term substitute science teacher (biology/general science).

Tim Smailes was employed as a long-term substitute Berkeley Springs High School halftime credit recovery teacher.

Carol Brown was hired as a long-term substitute Paw Paw Schools halftime elementary library/media specialist.

Amy Litten was employed as a long-term substitute Widmyer Elementary pre-K teacher.

Gary Wachter was hired as a long-term substitute Warm Springs Middle School art teacher.

Robin Langenstein was employed as a long-term substitute Warm Springs Middle School school counselor.

Other resignations

David Michael resigned as Berkeley Springs High School alternative education lead teacher/coordinator effective at the end of July 28 pending contract release, contingent upon the ability to fill the position, date to be determined.

Charles Wilson resigned as Warm Springs Middle School science teacher effective at the end of July 19.

Rachel Fisher resigned as county English Language Learner teacher effective at the end of July 21.

Curtis Robertson resigned as Warm Springs Middle School eighth grade math teacher effective at the end of July 30.

Service personnel

Tyler Mullins was hired as a Widmyer Elementary special education aide/autism mentor (itinerant) beginning with the 2023-2024 school year.

Kelly Bohrer was employed as an itinerant Widmyer Elementary special education aide/autism mentor starting with the 2023-2024 school year.

County transportation supervisor Erica Brown transferred to a position as Berkeley Springs High School clerk II beginning August 7.

Kelsey Lantz, Widmyer Elementary cook II, transferred to a position as Widmyer Elementary clerk II starting August 7.

Restructured positions

The school board approved restructuring a full-time Widmyer Elementary itinerant special education/bus aide position to a full-time Widmyer Elementary aide/medical support position.

The board also approved restructuring a full-time transportation supervisor position-Transportation (210 days-split shift) to a full-time clerk position-Transportation (210 days-split shift).

Additional position

An additional position was also okayed by the board-a Widmyer Elementary itinerant special education aide/behavior support position.  It will be funded by a West Virginia Department of Education grant.

Extracurricular/extra duty

Jamie Waugh was employed as Widmyer Elementary academic instructional coach starting with the 2023-2024 school year.

Anne Helmick was hired as Paw Paw Elementary academic instructional coach beginning with the 2023-2024 school year.

Scott Hessler was employed as Warm Springs Middle School seventh grade team leader.

Reductions in force (RIFs) were rescinded for the following MC After 3 personnel and they were reassigned to their former positions:

Summer Goller-county MC After 3 program coordinator.

Christie Butts-Warm Springs Intermediate School MC After 3 site coordinator.

Michael Wilder-Berkeley Springs High School MC After 3 site coordinator.

Lorra Root-Widmyer Elementary MC After 3 Jr. site coordinator.

Coaches, athletics

Andrew O’Dell was employed as Berkeley Springs High School head girls’ volleyball coach beginning August 2.

Robert Ambrose and Darrick Morgan were hired as Berkeley Springs High School assistant football coaches starting July 31.

John Rowland and Anne Helmick were approved as Berkeley Springs High School volunteer assistant cross country coaches for the 2023-2024 school year.

Tim Smailes and Doug Hamrick were employed as Berkeley Springs High School and also Warm Springs Middle School volunteer assistant golf coaches for the 2023-2024 season.

Danielle Swisher was hired as a Berkeley Springs High School limited football trainer starting July 31.

Meghan Powell resigned as Warm Springs Middle School head track coach effective at the end of July 31.

 Summer personnel

Mandy Bland was hired as a Warm Springs Middle School MC After 3 cook beginning July 24-August 4, as needed.

Temporary/part-time

Toby Puffenberger was employed as a Pleasant View Elementary interventionist teacher (Title IV) at $20 an hour, as needed as determined by the principal and not to exceed $7,200.

Contract adjustment

The school board approved adjusting the contract length of the assistant superintendent from 255 days to 261 days.
