David Franklin Shoemaker
1937-2023
David Franklin Shoemaker, age 85, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., died on Wednesday, July 19, 2023 at his home surrounded by his family and while under the care of Hospice of the Panhandle.
Born September 14, 1937 in Hancock, Md., he was the son of the late Thorton and Leathiee Hull Shoemaker.
He was a member of Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church. David was a 1955 graduate of Hancock High School. He served with the United States Army. Dave worked at Dillon’s Orchards in Hancock and two Metal Craft Companies in Berkeley Springs. He has served his community for over 45 years with the South Morgan Volunteer Fire Department. David enjoyed making hay, mowing his lawn and going to carnivals and fairs.
Dave is survived by his children, John Boyd Shoemaker, Tommy Jack Shoemaker, David Eugene Shoemaker and Daniel Elwood Shoemaker, all of Berkeley Springs, three grandchildren, Kayla Sue Harkcom of Williamsport, Md., Colleen Rose Smith and Megan Michelle Frey, both of Berkeley Springs, four great-grandchildren, Kandis, Maverick, Dalice and Ryan and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Alice Murphy Shoemaker, one son, James Marvin Shoemaker, one sister, Virgie Hull McFadden and two brothers, Floyd Shoemaker and Ira Shoemaker.
Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 22, 2023 at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs, W.Va., with Pastor Lloyd McCanna officiating. Burial was in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
The family received friends from 4-7 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
