1951-2023

Wallace Norman “Wally” Shives, age 71, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., died on Thursday, June 15, 2023 at his home with his family by his side and while under the care of Hospice of the Panhandle.

Born August 31, 1951 in Philadelphia, Pa., he was the son of Melvin James “Jimmy” Shives, Jr. of Needmore, Pa. and the late Doris Jane Wagner Shives.

He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hancock, Md. Wally was a graduate of Southern Fulton High School.

He began his truck driving career with the family business, Shives Excavating. Wally drove over the road with Mellott Manufacturing Company, T.H. Compton, Howard Delivery Services and USA Cartage. He retired from his truck driving career from RMDS-NAPA in 2015.

Wally was a lifetime member of the Risinger-Stotler VFW Post #4019.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, riding his John Deere tractor and socializing.

Wally is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sandra Kay McIntyre Shives, at home, his children, Brian Norman Shives and his wife, Tami and Amanda Kay Shives Kyne and her husband, Danny, all of Berkeley Springs, five siblings, Becky Dase and her husband, Tom, Rose Shives, Alvin Shives and his wife, Peggy and Christopher Shives and his wife, Debbie, all of Needmore, Pa. and Timothy Shives and his wife, Jenny of Warfordsburg, Pa., three grandchildren, Autumn Lea Shives, Brady Daniel Kyne and Noah Shives and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 22, 2023 at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs, W.Va., with Pastor Vincent Smith officiating. Burial will be in Greenway Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1-3 p.m. and 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
