Kasekamp & Tanouye capture Class A Region II Championships

Shayla Tanouye qualifies for State Tournament

This past Thursday, May 11 the Paw Paw Pirates track and field team traveled to Doddridge County High School for the Class A Re- gion II Championships. The Pirates were looking to punch several tickets to the Class A State Track and Field Cham- pionships next week in Charleston.

On the girl’s side the Lady Pirates had several athletes turn in outstanding performances. Freshman standout Shayla Tanouye was able to secure her first trip to the state championships. Tanouye finished third place in the 400 meters with a time of 1:03. Tanouye placed in the following events but not able to qualify for the states in the 100 hurdles (fifth, 18.04), high jump (sixth, 4’ 6”) and long jump (fifth, 14’8”).

The Lady Pirates also got placements Pricilla Corbin (100 meters, eighth, 14.41), Miah Smith (long jump, eighth, 14’4 1/2”) and Myley Mullins (shot put, sixth, 29’9”).

On the boy’ s side the Pirates had two individuals capture regional championships. Sophomore Donnie Tanouye won the long jump with an outstanding jump of 20’ 8 1/4”). Tanouye also qualified for the state meet in the 800 meters (third place, 2:08) and the 1600 meters (second place, 5:03).

Senior Dalton Kasekamp captured his second straight Class A Region II Champiionship in the discus with a throw of 135’ 9”. Kasekamp finished in second place in the shot put with a throw of 46’8” to qualify for the state tournament.

The Paw Paw trio of Dalton Kasekamp, Donnie Tanouye and Shayla Tanouye will head to Charleston, for the Class A State Track and Field Championships on Friday, May 19 and Saturday, May 20.
