Joseph Daniel Godwin
1940-2023
Joseph Daniel “Dan” Godwin, age 82 of Artemas, Pa., died on Thursday, April 27, 2023 at his home while under the care of UMPC Hospice.
Born September 1, 1940 in Takoma Park, Md., he was the son of the late Joseph William and Rae Tiller Godwin.
He was a Christian. Danny was a graduate. Dan served with the United States Army March 11, 1963 until his honorable discharge on March 10, 1965 at the rank of Specialist 4th Class during the Vietnam War. He worked as a supervisor with Potomac Electric Power Company until his retirement after 28 years of service. After his retirement, Dan was the caretaker of Fairview Cemetery and worked as a lineman with the Mann Township Department of Transportation. Danny was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #1483 in Berkeley Springs, W.Va., where he was past governor and earned his Fellowship Degree of Honor on August 20, 1995, Gateway Moose Legion #196, where he was past secretary, Alderton-Dawson American Legion Post #60, the Tri-State Honor Guard, where he was very active honoring his brother veterans, and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #4433. He enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading books, flower gardening, genealogy and spending time with his family.
Dan is survived by his wife of 52 years, Lorraine Carol Conrad Godwin at home, one daughter, Grace Rae Stonestreet and her husband Guy “Buck” of Flintstone, Md., one sister, Trudy Godwin of Hanover, Pa., two brothers, Patrick Godwin of Virginia and Thomas Godwin of Red Line, Pa., three grandchildren, Guy Eugene Stonestreet IV and his wife, Chasity, Rebecca Rae Paxton and her husband, Josh, Jennifer Carol Mackereth and her husband, Collin all of Flintstone, seven great-grandchildren, Bailey, Sunnie, Joshua, Raelynn, Constance, Jeremiah and Sadie and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Cynthia Godwin and one brother, James Godwin.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 7, 2023 at Fairview Cemetery, 1751 Crooked Run Road, Artemas, Pa. with Pastor Jeff Hawbaker officiating and with graveside military honors provided by the Tri-State Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. on Saturday, May 6, 2023 at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs, WV.
