Lady Indians go 3-0 to close out regular season

The Berkeley Springs Lady Indians softball team found the right time to put together a three game winning streak. The final week of the regular season saw Berkeley Springs take wins over John Handley (V a.), McConnellsburg (Pa.) and Grafton (W.Va.).

The Lady Indians traveled to Winchester, Va., on Mon- day, April 24, to take on the John Handley Judges. The Lady Indians put the game away in the first three innings taking a 22-0 lead. Handley battled back to cut the score to 22-5 in the bottom of the fourth inning. In the top of the fifth inning Berkeley Springs added six more runs to the scoreboard to wrap up the 28-7 win.

The Lady Indians were led offensively by Emily Schultz (homerun, 1B, 3 runs and 4 RBIs), Allison Gray (3B, 2 runs and 2 RBIs), Alaira Harrington (2-2Bs, 4 runs and 2 RBIs), Cheyenne Lewis (2- 1B, 2 runs and 2 RBIs), Marley Heath (4 runs and RBI), Ocean Clatterbuck (1B, 2 runs and 2 RBIs), Emma Widmeyer (1B, 4 runs and 2 RBIs), Jayda Thompson (run), Emily Malcomb (run and RBI), Justina Vann (1B, 3 runs and 2 RBIs), Layla Parsell (4-1Bs, 2 runs and RBI) and Destiny Parsell (2B and 2 RBIs).

Ocean Clatterbuck got the win in the circle going four innings, allowing two runs, and striking out five.

On Wednesday, April 26 the Lady Indians hosted McConnellsburg, Pa., for senior night. The two teams were tied 3-3 after the first inning. The Lady Indians would rally in the bottom of the third to take a 4-3 lead.

In the bottom of the fifth and sixth inning the Lady Indians tacked on four more runs to secure the 8-4 win.

Leading the way for Berkeley Springs were Allison Gray (1B, 2B, 3B, 3 runs and 5 RBIs), Alaira Harrington (1B, 2B and run), Destiny Parsell (2-1B and 2 RBIs), Emma Widmeyer (2B and 2 runs), and Justina Vann (run).

Prior to the win the Lady Indians celebrated their three seniors Emily Schultz #23, Destiny Parsell #00 and Justiina Vann #2.

On Thursday, April 27 the Lady Indians hit the road for a contest at the Grafton Bearcats. After the first four innings the Lady Indians held a 6-2 lead. Berkeley Springs wrapped up the win with seven runs in the top of the seventh inning to secure the 13-3 win and #15 for the season.

Berkeley Springs tallied 17 total hits for game. Leading the way were Marley Heath (2-1B, 2B, 2 runs and 2 RBIs), Destiny Parsell (3-1B, run and 2 RBIs), Emma Widmeyer (2B, 3B, 3 runs and 2 RBIs), Alaira Harrington (2- 1B, run and 2 RBIs), Justina Vann (1B, 2B, run and RBI), Emily Schultz (1B, 2B and 2 runs), Jayda Thompson (3B, 2 runs and RBI), Allison Gray (2B, run and 2 RBIs), and Layla Parsell (1B).

Alaira Harrington captured the win going seven innings, limiting Grafton to three runs with the help of the defense behind her.

Next up for the Lady Indians (15-13) is the first round of the sectional championships. The Tribe traveled to Frankfort on Tuesday, May 2 for a 5 p.m. contest.
