Crash leads to extrication effort by Paw Paw fire crews, Hampshire Co.

Paw Paw fire crews assisted with a motor vehicle extrication in water over the weekend. Company officials said in a social media post that Company 32 was alerted to Gaston Road in Hampshire County to assist Hampshire with a two-vehicle auto accident.

One of the vehicles was in the water on its top under a bridge, and emergency responders confirmed there was an individual trapped inside.

Fire officials said Hampshire County Company 5 arrived on scene first and began to extricate the trapped patient. Crews from Paw Paw arrived and assisted by helping to roll the vehicle to its side and stabilize the vehicle, and then assist with the extrication.

Fire officials said the lone occupant was successfully removed and alive. Emergency medical units on the scene took over patient care and transported the person to a medical facility.
