Della Dean Leach

1927-2023

Della Dean Leach, 95, of Great Cacapon, W.Va., died Thursday, January 26, 2023 at her daughter, Barbara’s home in Great Cacapon.

Born October 31, 1927 at Crockett, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late French Maiden King and Coela Sharitz King.

Before she was two years old, the family moved to Pennsylvania – they were farmers.

Della was a graduate of Oxford High School in Oxford, Pa. She worked for a short time at Hercules Powder Company after finishing the general secretarial course at Beacom College in Wilmington, Delaware.

She met her husband, Charles Henry Leach, in Delaware, they married on September 23, 1950, and settled there. When Charles retired, they moved to West Virginia where Charles grew up.

Della was a member of the Paw Paw Bible Church and Gideons International Ladies Auxiliary.

She enjoyed talking about her childhood, teaching children at church, gardening, reading and doing puzzles.

Della is survived by her children, Barbara Louise Shier and her husband, Douglas of Great Cacapon, W.Va. and Susan Jane Sparks, Laureldale, Pa.; daughter-in-law, Nellie Leach, wife of David; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and siblings, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; a son, David Wayne Leach and a granddaughter, Amy Beth Sparks.

The family will receive friends from 3-6 p.m. Thursday, February 2, 2023 at Kimble Funeral Home in Paw Paw. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, February 3 at the Paw Paw Bible Church on McCoole Avenue with Pastor Jeff Rossignol officiating. Interment will be at Camp Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Paw Paw Bible Church, P.O. Box 576, Paw Paw, WV 25434.
