James Alfred Reed, Jr.

1941-2022

James Alfred Reed, Jr. age 81, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., died on Friday, December 23, 2022 at his home while under the care of Hospice of the Panhandle.

Born October 29, 1941 in Lawrence Township, N.J., he was the son of the late James Alfred Reed, Sr. and Etta Cook Reed.

He attended Union Chapel United Methodist Church. James was a graduate of Princeton High School in Princeton, N.J. He worked as a director of Hopewell Township Public Works in Mercer County, N.J. until his retirement after 30 years of service. James was a member of Amwell Masonic Lodge #12 A.F. & A.M. in Lambertville, N.J. He enjoyed listening to bluegrass music, attending bluegrass festivals, singing, playing the bass and guitar. James loved going to the coast of New Jersey and ocean fishing.

James is survived by his wife of 29 years Sharon Mae Clarkson Reed, at home, two children, Janet Szalontay of Boca Raton, Fla., Kenneth Szalontay of Surfside Beach, S.C., two sisters, Joan Jones of Germantown, Ohio and Judith Katona of Trenton, N.J., two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Services and burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in James memory may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2900 N. Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607.
