Reverend Owen Byrd Womack

1930-2022

Reverend Owen Byrd Womack, 92, of Martinsburg, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, December 5, 2022 at Care Haven Center.

Born February 25, 1930, in Lynchburg, Va., he was the son of the late Robert B. Womack and Marion R. Ashwell Womack.

He was a pastor with the United Methodist Church for over sixty-years, serving various churches in Maryland and the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia including Asbury in Charles Town, Calvary in Martinsburg, First United Methodist in Berkeley Springs, Middleway United Methodist in Middleway, and Washington Square in Hagerstown, Md. He served as Chaplain for various non-profit organizations. He also served as a missionary to Cuba in the early 1950’s. He was a graduate of Asbury College in Kentucky and Wesley Seminary.

He is survived by one son, William O. Womack; one daughter, Dorothy M. Womack Landis and husband, Lester L. Landis, Jr.; one grandchild, Marian L. Landis; one sister, Vivian Joyce Knox; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Caton Womack; and four brothers, Raymond, Robert B. Jr., Thomas, and Mack Womack.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, December 13, 2022, at the Brown Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 14, 2022 at 11 a.m. at Middleway United Methodist Church with Pastor Scott Sassaman officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
