Phillip C. Spriggs
1929-2022
Phillip C. “Phil” Spriggs, 93, of Williamsport and formerly of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., passed away on Wednesday, November 30, 2022 at his home.
Born June 30, 1929, in Westernport, Md., he was a son of the late Charles and Virgil (Zais) Spriggs. He was preceded in death by his brother, William Spriggs.
Phil graduated from Bruce High School, Class of 1947 and earned his Associate Degree from American University, Washington, D.C. He proudly served the United States Government, Department of Defense, with over 40 years of dedicated service as an Administrative Officer. He was a lifetime member and past WV chapter president of N.A.R.F.E., a lifetime member of United Methodist Church and member of Union Chapel, Berkeley Springs, W.Va.
He loved his Wife of 74 years Anne, and extended family. He was a dedicated family man, devoted Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great-Grandfather. His lifetime passions were hunting and fishing. As an avid Hunter and Angler, he enjoyed many deer hunting and fishing adventures with his children, uncle, cousins and friends. He also enjoyed a lifetime of fellowship with his extensive network of colleagues and friends.
He greatly relished his volunteer time with the Cacapon Resort State Park Foundation, his career, and his overseas work assignment in Germany, which allowed extensive travel throughout Europe.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Elizabeth Anne (Nofsinger) Spriggs; his two Sons, Robert P. Spriggs and Wife, Nancy and Craig L. Spriggs, with whom he resided for the past 3 years; a Brother, Richard Spriggs; Nephews, Steven and David, his Grandchildren, Carlton Spriggs and long-term girlfriend Holly Bauknecht, Elizabeth Vanatta and husband Adam and his Great-Grandchildren, Caiden, Lyncoln, Preston, Savannah, Natalie, Brandon and Jenna. Also surviving are his in-laws, Mary Jo Torbet, Jean and Harry Burton, Sue and Glenn Smith, Harold Dean Nofsinger, Hazel Lee Spriggs and Midge Nofsinger. He will be sadly missed by several loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in honor of Phillip C. Spriggs to the Westernport Heritage Society, 117 Maryland Avenue, Westernport, MD 21562 and Union Chapel United Methodist Church, 10123 Valley Road, Berkeley Springs, WV 25411.
Services will be conducted by Reverend Mike Leedom, Union Chapel United Methodist Church, at Markwood Funeral Home, Keyser, W.Va. on Friday December 9, beginning at Noon.
Private entombment will be held in Potomac Memorial Mausoleum, Keyser, W.Va.
Arrangements have been entrusted in the Markwood Funeral Home, Keyser.
