Donovan Tanouye finishes third in Class State Cross Country Championships

by Jamie Harris

The Class A State Cross Country Championships were held this past Saturday, October 29 at Cabell Midland High School. With an early morning start for Class A and decent weather it was a prime opportunity for runners to stake their claim to all state honors. However, the big stage could also cause some runners to experience some nervous moments that could affect their performances.

Enter Paw Paw High School sophomore Donovan Tanouye the Region I Class A runner up. Tanouye entered the race with a strong mindset and kicked any concerns over nerves to the curb and set out to make school history.

Tanouye ran a phenomenal race from start to finish and earned his first ever all-state honors with a third place finish with a time of 17:06.35. Aidan Scott (Wheeling Central) took first place with a time of 16:23 and Chase Trembly (Williamstown) was second with a time of 16:58.

Tanouye becomes the first Paw Paw Pirate cross country runner to become all state in the sport and will certainly be a threat to capture a state title in his final two years.
