High school mourns loss of student, offers counseling support

A 17-year-old male Berkeley Springs High School student passed away last week. School officials made the announcement about the death, but did not release any information about the cause of the young man’s passing.

Social workers were on hand at the high school last Thursday and Friday for students that needed counseling or any assistance to cope with the loss, said Morgan County Schools Superintendent Kristin Tuttle.

Tuttle said that the family and the community were also encouraged to take advantage

of the counseling. A few students requested counseling, but it wasn’t a large number. Tuttle couldn’ t speak to the cause of the student’ s death.

A Berkeley Springs High School Facebook post last week said that the student had passed away while at the hospital. It mentioned that the high school had a crisis response team of professionals and counselors who were trained to help students, parents and school personnel during difficult times like these. The post also said that the school was very saddened by the loss.
