Virginia Joan Albanese
1941-2022
Virginia Joan “Ginger” Albanese, age 81, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., died on Sunday, October 16, 2022 at her home while under the care of Hospice of the Panhandle.
Born May 16, 1941 in Nyack, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Sylvester A. and Virginia Joan Dougherty DeLisio.
She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Berkeley Springs. She was a 1960 graduate of Greenhill School in Dallas, Texas. Ginger had worked with C & P Telephone in Washington, D.C., as a seamstress at Londontown Manufacturing in Hancock, Md., at Valley View Nursing Home in Berkeley Springs and as a teacher’s aide with Morgan County Public Schools. She also did babysitting and had been a homemaker in recent years. She enjoyed sewing, cooking for her grandchildren, reading, birdwatching, caring for her many house plants and having dinner parties for her friends.
Ginger is survived by her husband of 52 years, William “Bill” Albanese, Jr., at home, four children, Lisa Joan Ambrose and her husband Tom, Tracy Albanese Younker and her husband Darrin and Sheldon Lee Albanese and his partner, Chastine Jay, all of Berkeley Springs, Karen Lynn Barton of Roanoke, Va., one brother, Eugene DeLisio of Stratford, Wis., 10 grandchildren, Nathaniel Younker, Sarah Michael, Trevor Albanese, Riley Albanese and Isabela Albanese, all of Berkeley Springs, Meghan Ambrose of Washington, D.C., Amber Markham and Taylor McCullough, both of Roanoke, Alexis Albanese of Martinsburg, and McKenzie Ambrose of Morgantown, W.Va., two great-grandchildren, Mikendal Markham and Ayden Markham, both of Roanoke and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one grandson, Paul Keddington and one sister, Marilyn Frate.
Services and interment will be private.
