Week in and week out the Berkeley Springs High School Tennis Teams grind out the same results. Wins! In three matches last week Berkeley Springs took three more wins with match scores of 7-0 in each of the boy’s and girl’s contests.
On Friday, April 1 it was no April Fool’ s joke as Berkeley Springs hosted the East Fairmont Bees. With cold weather conditions, a little rain, some sleet and wind along with the help of coaches and parents using leaf blowers to dry the courts the two teams battled it out
On the boy’s side the Tribe racked up a 7-0 win. Earning wins in singles competition Haden Fincham, Brandon Pindell, Cardin Beal and Alejandro Gomez Montaldo. The doubles team of Fincham/ Pindell, Beal & Justin Brinegar, and Gomez Montaldo & Brent Baker also picked up wins.
The Lady Indians also picked up the 7-0 win over East Fairmont. Earning singles wins were Truly Henry, Emma Christie, Kennedy Shives and Lilly Morgan. Earning doubles wins were Henry/Christie, Shives/Morgan and Ivy Hale and Bryn Dudash.
In the early hours of the morning on Saturday April 2 Berkeley Springs hit the road for a tri meet with St. Mary’s and Ritchie County held at St. Mary’s High School. In the boy’ s match the Indians only dropped two games out of 26 (only three overall matches played). Earning singles wins were Fincham, Pindell, Beal and Alejandro Gomez Montaldo. In doubles Fincham and Pindell earned another win, while the #2 and #3 doubles teams for the Indians won by default.
In the girls matches the Lady Indians rolled to a 7-0 win. Earning singles wins were Henry, Christie, Shives and Morgan. Earning doubles
wins were Henry/Christie, Shives/Morgan and Hale/Dudash.
Against Ritchie County the Indians dropped only one game out of 57 played. Earn- ing wins in singles competition were the doubles team of Fincham/Pindell, Beal/Brinegar and Montaldo/Baker also picked up wins.
The Lady Indians followed with another 7-0 win. Earning singles wins were Henry, Christie, Shives and Morgan. Earning doubles wins were Henry/Christie, Shives/Morgan and Hale/Dudash.
The tennis program will be back in action this week with almost a match every day. On Monday, April 4 Berkeley Springs traveled to Moorefield for a key PVC contest. On Tuesday, April 5 the teams were at home against Hedgesville. On Wednesday, April 6th the teams will travel to Spring Mills. On Thursday, April 7 a road trip to Keyser will be in place for the Tribe. Then on Saturday, April 9 Berkeley Springs will host Fairmont Senior for Senior Day starting at 11:30 a.m. The Tribe will honor seniors Baker, Fincham, Preston Harris, Sonya Hose, Emily Morris and Shives before the games.
