Steve Donald Francis

1945-2022

Steve Donald Francis, 76, of Warfordsburg, Pennsylvania, died peacefully at the VA Hospital in Martinsburg, West Virginia on January 2, 2022.

Steve was born in Hancock, Maryland on July 18, 1945 to Vergil Francis and Thelma Morgret Francis.

After graduation from high school, Steve was drafted into the United States Army. His many awards were National Defense Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, three Purple Hearts, Bronze Star, Combat Infantryman’s Badge, one Overseas Bar, Sharpshooter Badge (M-14), and Marksman Badge (M-16).

Steve enjoyed the outdoors, deer hunting and mushroom hunting. He also enjoyed playing card games and watching westerns.

Steve was preceded in death by his wife, Gertha Sauter Francis, of Warfordsburg, Pa.; two sisters, Suella Hartley, of Germantown, Md., and Norma Barnhart of Needmore, Pa. He is survived by daughters, Echo Stotler and spouse Travis Stotler, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., Stephanie Ziemba and spouse Daniel Ziemba, of Warfordsburg, Pa., Ivy Gordon and husband Scott Gordon, of Shohola, Pa.; two Brothers, John Francis, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., and Wayne Francis, of Cumberland, Md.; three Sisters, Carolyn Pritchard, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., Phyllis Francis, of McConnellsburg, Pa., and Annabel Thornton of Myrtle Beach, S.C. Steve is also survived by 13 Grandchildren, Brian Francis, Zachary Ziemba, Todd Gordon, Breana Stotler, Blake Gordon, Joshua Ziemba, Eevy Gordon, Avalina Gordon, Nichole Gordon, Isaiah Gordon, Vivian Gordon, Trent Gordon and Uriah Ziemba. Three great granddaughters, Lilliana Francis, Luna Francis and Elliot Ziemba. Also surviving many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Arrangements will be handled by Hunter-Anderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 36 S. Green Street, Berkeley Springs.
