Relda Joyce White

1934-2022

Relda Joyce White, age 88, of Berkeley Springs, West Virginia died on Sunday, May 22, 2022 at Blue Ridge Hospice in Winchester, Virginia.

Born February 15, 1934, in Berkeley Springs, she was the daughter of Ray Roscoe Rice and Elsie Victoria Custer Rice.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church.

She was a graduate of Berkeley Springs High School class of 1952. In addition to her numerous high achievements academically, to include regular service as a class officer, she was a member of the girls’ basketball team.

She married her high school sweetheart, George, in 1953, prior to his military service during the Korean War. She lived in the Washington, D.C. Metro area while he was in boot camp and during his 2-year service.

Eventually she began her long and remarkable 34-year professional career with the Central Intelligence Agency progressively serving in more responsible positions. She worked for several offices within the agency, but she spent almost 20 years in the Office of Security, where she served as the Executive Secretary for 6 different Directors. She retired in October of 1994 in her last post as Special Assistant to the Deputy Director of Administration. During her career she received numerous accolades, to include Secretary of the Year, the Exceptional Service Medallion and upon her retirement, the Intelligence Medal of Merit.

She is survived by one son, Darrin R. White and wife Linda of Centreville, Virginia and one granddaughter, Amanda R. White of Woodbridge, Virginia, two sisters, Barbara (Donald) Morgan of Vienna, Virginia, and Sandra Norman of Evington, Virginia and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, George Wilson White, 5 brothers, Ray Rice, Jr., Renan Rice, Franklin Rice, Glen Rice and Keith Rice and 2 sisters, Corinne DeLawder and Nita Stephenson.

Family received friends on Friday, May 27, 2022 from 2 to 4 & 6 to 8 p.m. at Hunter-Anderson Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 36 S. Green Street, Berkeley Springs, W.Va. Funeral services were conducted on Saturday, May 28, 2022 at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, 49 S. Green Street, Berkeley Springs, W.Va. Burial was conducted on Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at National Memorial Park at 7485 Lee Highway, Falls Church, Virginia.

In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations be made to either of the following organizations of many close to Relda’s heart; the Senior Life Services of Morgan County or First United Methodist Church.
