Nellie L. “Scootie” Ricewick, 74, of Paw Paw, W.Va., passed away Tuesday, September 21, 2021 at J. W. Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va.
Born February 22, 1947 at Baltimore, Md., she was the daughter of the late Howard Hayes and Edith Turner Hayes King.
Nellie lived in Paw Paw most of her life.
For many years she was a stay-at-home mom, and later entered the workforce at National Fruit and Consolidated Orchards.
She loved crafting, putting together puzzles, cooking, baking and going to yard sales.
She is survived by her children – Doug Athey (Sylvia) of Great Cacapon, W.Va., Ronda Gilpin (Tom) of Morgantown, W.Va., Terri Cowgill of Waynesboro, Pa. and Robin Rodriguez (Johnny) of Paw Paw; two sisters – Janie Wolford (Charlie) of Augusta, W.Va. and Ella “Junie” Allen of Paw Paw; three brothers – Vernon “Pete” Hayes (Margaret) of Missouri, William “Billy” Hayes of Paw Paw and Benny “Elmer” King of Paw Paw; six grandchildren – Matthew Gilpin, Brian Athey, Alexis Henson, Kailee Ullery, Zachary Gilpin and Selena Rodriguez; three step grandchildren – Andrea, Mirah and Johnny Rodriguez and three great-grandchildren – Mason, Bristol and Baby Athey
Preceding her in death were – one grandson, Brandon Athey; six brothers, Howard “Tony,” Rodger, Keith, Johnny, Robert “Bobby” and Kenneth “Smoke” Hayes and two sisters, Helen Hayes and Vivian Watson.
A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, September 26 at the Paw Paw United Methodist Church with Pastor Darlene Powers officiating. Interment was at Camp Hill Cemetery.
