Medical cannabis company adds West Virginia dispensaries to holdings

by Kate Shunney

Trulieve, the medical cannabis company that recently acquired the Harvest cannabis operation in Hancock, has added a West Virginia cannabis dispensary business to their holdings.

Trulieve acquired Greenhouse Wellness West Virginia Dispensaries, LLC. The company now has permits to open 10 dispensaries across West Virginia.

Trulieve currently has two operating medical cannabis dispensaries – in Morgantown and Weston. Trulieve has permits to open more in Martinsburg, Parkersburg and South Charleston.

According to the company, Trulieve operates 160 retail dispensaries across the U.S. and employs more than 9,000 workers. They do business in 11 states, including Maryland, West Virginia and Pennsylvania.

West Virginia plans

The company said it plans to open seven more dispensaries in West Virginia by the end of 2022, and expects to cultivate between 85,000 and 125,000 square feet of cannabis for medical use.

The West Virginia Office of Medical Cannabis is the state’s licensing agency for both the growing and processing end of medical cannabis, and for physician and patient participation.

Patients who want to be eligible to purchase medical cannabis must work with a physician who has been approved by the State of West Virginia, and must apply for a patient card from the state. An online registration portal and physician information is found on www.omc.wv.gov.

Maryland & Pa operations

Trulieve operates three medical cannabis dispensaries in Maryland in Halethorpe, Lutherville and Rockville.

The company runs 19 dispensaries in Pennsylvania, with plans to open two more.
