Margaret Julia Place

1937-2021

Margaret Julia Place, age 84, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., died on Sunday, October 31, 2021 at War Memorial Hospital in Berkeley Springs.

Born July 4, 1937 in Winneshiek County, Iowa, she was the daughter of the late Guy Therorin and Thea Marie Torresdal Nelson.

She was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Berkeley Springs where she was the church organist.

After high school graduation, Margaret attended secretarial college.

She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Risinger-Stotler VFW Post #4019 and was an avid scrabble player. Margaret had been a homemaker in recent years as well as St. Mark’s organist.

She is survived by her children, John Arnold Erickson of Scituate, Mass. and Karl Eugene Erickson of East Nassau, N.Y., four grandchildren, Grant Erickson of Dover, N.H., Karylena “Karly” Erickson of Hanover, Mass., Clayton Erickson and Cole Erickson, both of East Nassau, N.Y., her scrabble partner, Lowell Starr of Chantilly, Va. and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Lewis Place on May 2, 1999 and her sister, Thelma G. Korsness.

Memorial services will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Friday, November 12, 2021 at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 180 S. Washington Street, Berkeley Springs, W.Va. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to St. Mark’s Episcopal Church Music Fund, 180 S. Washington Street, Berkeley Springs, WV 25411.
