Lewis buys Park N Dine at Thursday auction

by Geoff Fox

A landmark restaurant in Hancock sold last week at auction to a man who already has a successful restaurant in Hancock.

Park N Dine was sold for $500,000 to Ben Lewis. Lewis owns Potomac River Grill on the 522 Bridge as well as Ben Lewis Plumbing in Clarksburg, Md.

The bid was for $470,000, however the lending bank has a right to bump it up to $500,000, said auctioneer Jonathan Melnick.

Baltimore’s Jonathan Melnick Auctioneers held the auction on Thursday, April 28, at 1 p.m. The total time of the auction was only 15 minutes.

Melnick said there were only 20 to 25 people at the auction and the ownership of the well-established business only came down to two bidders.

Lewis bought the real property, which was the building and land surrounding it. No personal property was included in the transaction, Melnick said.

Park N Dine has been closed for a number of months, and was slated to be the future home of a sports betting operation. Last year, the Hancock restaurant celebrated their 75th anniversary. In its heyday, it was well known to highway travelers and hosted many local banquets and family meals.

After being closed for a number of months, Park N Dine was sold last week to a new owner.
