Johnny Carroll Walter, Sr., age 87, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., died on Wednesday, January 19, 2022 at his residence.

Born November 27, 1934 in Takoma Park, Md., he was the son of the late Fred Douglas and Marguerite Cooly Walter.

He was a Christian.

Johnny was a graduate of Blair High School in Silver Spring, Md.

He served with the United States Army from June 19, 1957 until his honorable discharge of the rank of Specialist 4 on June 18, 1958, where he earned the Good Conduct medal and the Army of Occupation medal.

Johnny worked in Takoma Park until his retirement in 1976 as a police officer. He was a 32nd degree Master Mason of the Deford Lodge A.F. & A.M., Alderton-Dawson American Legion Post #60, Risinger-Stotler VFW Post #4019, and Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #1483, all in Berkeley Springs, Williamsport Red Man Lodge #84 in Williamsport, Md.

Johnny enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating and was an avid NASCAR fan.

Johnny is survived by his wife of 20 years, Mabel Vail Waugh Walter, at home; his children, Debbie Ross, of Westminster, Md., Patty Lanham, of Catonsville, Md., Joni Houser, of Cape Coral, Fla., Johnnie Carroll Walter, Jr., of Berkeley Springs; one sister, Joan Compton, of Carolina Beach, N.C.; two grandsons, Joshua Walter, of Shenandoah Junction, W.Va., Brian Walter, of Charleston, S.C.; two great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Gidget Bryan; one sister and three brothers.

Services and burial for Johnny will be private.
