Jean Marshburn Sloan, age 75, of Manteo, N.C., formerly of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., died on Sunday, October 3, 2021 at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, N.C.

Born November 29, 1945 in Pomona, Calif., she was the daughter of the late Arthur Ermin and Carol Alene Mead Marshburn.

She was of the Presbyterian faith. She was a graduate of William H. Taft High School in Woodland Hills, Calif., and attended Whittier College in Whittier, Calif.

Jean had worked as a cashier in grocery stores and was a homemaker in recent years.

She enjoyed reading.

She is survived by her son, Gerald Thomas “Pete” Sloan, of Manteo, N.C.; two brothers, Robert Marshburn, of Edisto Beach, S.C., and Thomas Marshburn, of Palo Alto, Calif.; three grandchildren, Kayla Marie Sloan, of Boone, N.C., Cameron Kirk Sloan and Nathanial Ryan Sloan, both of Frederick, Md., and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Edward Sloan on June 18, 2019 and one brother, David Marshburn.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:30 a.m., on Thursday, October 14, at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs, W.Va., with Pastor Chuck Bergen officiating. Interment will be in Rocky Gap Veterans Cemetery, Flintstone, Md.
