Janet Ruth Avey
1927-2021
Janet Ruth Avey, age 93, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., died on Tuesday, October 5, 2021 at The Berkeley Springs Center LLC.
Born November 5, 1927 in Berkeley Springs, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late William Clarence and Farah Ellen Ambrose Yost.
She was a Protestant.
Janet attended the Timber Ridge School and had been a homemaker for most of her life.
She worked seasonally at the Michael Cannery.
She enjoyed cooking, gardening, needlework, her pets and she upholstered furniture.
Janet is survived by her children, Peggy Lee Omps and her husband Danny, Ernest Lee Avey, Jr. and his wife Debra and Timothy Mark Avey and his wife Lisa, all of Berkeley Springs; three grandchildren, Christie Lee Butts and Jonathan Benjamin Avey, both of Berkeley Springs, and Megan Marie Ryan, of Winchester, Va.; one step granddaughter, Kristin Lee Nickerson, of Clearbrook, Va.; three great grandchildren, Sara Rebecca Butts, of Virginia Beach, Va., Conor Declan Ryan, of Winchester and Korie Lynn Avey, of Berkeley Springs and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Lee “Rabbit” Avey, Sr. on December 19, 2009; five sisters, Margaret Allemong, Pauline Rhinehart, Louise Morgret, Mildred Guttridge and Frances Wachter and two brothers, Robert “Buck” Yost and William Clarence “Sonny” Yost, Jr.
Graveside funeral services were conducted on Friday, October 8, at Oakland Cemetery, 1650 Sticky Kline Road, Berkeley Springs, W.Va., Pastor Ken Dyar officiated. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Oakland Cemetery, c/o Barbara Yost, 3576 Virginia Line Road, Berkeley Springs, WV 25411.
