HVAC firm buys lot in county business park

Furlong’s Sheetmetal Inc. of Winchester, Va., has purchased a lot in the Morgan County 522 Business Park to expand its heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) business.

Earlier this month, the Morgan County Economic Development Authority sold a 5.8-acre lot in the business park to Landon Furlong, who owns and operates Furlong’s Sheetmetal with his son, Byron Furlong; his daughter, Amanda Miller; and his former son-in-law, Jason Miller.

According to Morgan County EDA director Lyn Goodwin, Furlong’s Sheetmetal plans to build a 4,000- to 5,000-square-foot facility which will be used to recycle HVAC equipment and store products and materials.

Goodwin says the company doesn’t have a timeframe set yet for their building plans. They haven’t started the building permit process or site plan approval process yet, she said.

Initially, the company expects to have 3-5 employees at its Berkeley Springs location but told the EDA they hope to offer additional job opportunities as the business grows its HVAC installation and service operations locally.

“We feel very welcomed in Morgan County and look forward to building a green office/shop facility using earth-friendly methods and efficiencies. In addition to our recycling activities there, we want to make high efficiency HVAC equipment available to Morgan County consumers,” said Landon Furlong. “It is an exciting time to be in the HVAC industry, and we will share that excitement with Morgan County.”

“We’re pleased that an established, family-owned business like Furlong’s Sheetmetal chose to expand its business in Morgan County and the 522 Business Park,” said Larry Omps, president of the Morgan County Economic Development Authority. “We wish them continued success and look forward to having their services available locally.”

In business since 1986, Furlong’s Sheetmetal does both residential and commercial HVAC work from installing new systems to trouble-shooting older systems as well as routine maintenance.

The company specializes in air conditioning, heat pumps, gas furnaces, boilers, and geo thermal, and services all brands of HVAC equipment.

Furlong’s purchased Lot 6 in the 522 Business Park, which is the second lot on the left past ReSteel Supply.
