Etta Mae Grove Hovermale, age 87, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., died on Sunday, January 9, 2022 at her residence while under the care of Hospice of the Panhandle.

Born September 23, 1934 in Berkeley Springs, she was the daughter of the late Charles Clay and Naomi Virginia Michael Grove.

She was a member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church.

Etta was a 1952 graduate of Berkeley Springs High School.

She retired as a supervisor with CVS Drug Stores. Etta had worked as a supervisor with Repco Electronics, Berkeley Springs Pharmacy and Revco.

She was a member of the Alderton-Dawson American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Unit #60 and the Women of the Moose Chapter #1311, both in Berkeley Springs.

Etta enjoyed bowling, going to play bingo and playing computer games.

Etta is survived by her children, Howard Kim Murfin of Chattanooga, Tenn., Deena Joy Simmons, Betsy Sue Barfield, and Robin Jean Moser, all of Orlando, Fla., three grandchildren, Melissa Candace Murfin of Sarasota, Fla., Jenna Michelle Simmons of Orlando and Alexus Michelle Murfin of Chattanooga, Tenn., one step-granddaughter, Natasha Renee Prince of Chattanooga, two great-grandchildren, four step-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Etta was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Robert “Sonny” Hovermale on September 9, 2015, three sisters, Nancy Helsley, Mary Lou Grove, Madeline Grove, and three brothers, Jimmie Ray Grove, Gilbert “Gus” Grove and Kenneth Lewis Grove.

Services and burial for Etta will be private.
