Woodrow Wilson Leighty

1924-2021

Woodrow Wilson Leighty, age 96, of Carneys Point, N.J., passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 11, 2021 at his home.

Born June 21, 1924, in Berkeley Springs, W.Va., he was the son of the late George H. and Anna E. (Casler) Leighty; and husband of the late Anna Lou (Hinckle) Leighty, whom he married September 20, 1949 in Frederick, Md., and who passed away September 16, 2016.

He graduated from Berkeley Springs High School with the class of 1941.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army; and retired from DuPont in Carneys Point after forty years of employment.

He was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

He is survived by three sons, David Leighty and his wife, Roseanne, Bruce Leighty and his wife, Sue Ann and Robert Leighty and his wife Lianne; nine grandchildren, Jeremy Romano, Patricia Edmonds, Anna Leighty, Shannon Menei, Jessica Bright, Bruce Leighty, Jr., Matthew Leighty, Bobbi Jo Szanyi and Robert Leighty; and thirteen great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two daughters, JoAnn Romano and Elizabeth Leighty; one brother, George Henry “Harry” Leighty and one sister, Betty Schafer.

The family received friends on Saturday, April 17, 2021, from 10 until 11 a.m., at the Damascus Christian Church, 717 Big Cove Tannery Road, Big Cove Tannery, Pa., with the funeral service following at 11 a.m., with Rev. Walter Watson Douglas officiating. Burial, with Military Honors by the Tri-State Honor Guard, followed in the adjoining cemetery.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Grove Funeral Home, in Hancock, Md.
