Venetta H. Reed

1931-2018

Venetta Hester (Weller) Reed, age 87, of Hancock, Md., passed away on Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at the Hagerstown Healthcare Center, in Hagerstown, Md.

Born September 2, 1931, in Hancock, she was the daughter of the late Homer Weller and Mabel (Younker) Carbaugh; and the widow of James Lewis Reed, Sr., who died on April 27, 2004.

She retired from Fleetwood Industries, in Hancock.

She was a member of the Orchard Ridge First Church of God, in Hancock, where she was a deaconess, Sunday school teacher, and past president of the Ladies Aid Society.

She loved music and played the guitar in her church. She also loved to play solitaire in her spare time.

She is survived by four daughters, Sharon L. Reed, of Hancock, Wilma J. Powell, of Clear Spring, Md., Deborah K. Stouffer, and Roberta Everitt, both of Hagerstown, Md.; one son, James L. Reed, Jr. and his wife, Brenda, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va.; a daughter-in-law, Pauline Y. Reed, of Hancock; twelve grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Larry L. Reed; and two sisters, Inez Younker and Irene Gearhart.

Services were held on Tuesday, October 30, 2018, at 11 a.m. at the Orchard Ridge First Church of God, 14128 Orchard Ridge Road, Hancock. Pastor Jeffrey Hawbaker officiated.

Burial followed in the church cemetery.

The family received friends at the Grove Funeral Home, 141 West Main Street, Hancock, on Monday, October 29, 2018, from 6 until 8 p.m., and at the church on Tuesday, one hour prior to the services.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to the Hospice of Washington County, 747 Northern Ave., Hagerstown, Md. 21742.
