Local police arrested two Berkeley Springs residents on Monday, April 1, and charged them with possession of drugs with the intent to deliver them. Sheriff K.C. Bohrer identified the suspected drugs as “scramble” – a capsule form of combined drugs with either heroin or cocaine as the base.
Shortly after 4 p.m., police made contact with Richard S. Hovermale, 32, and Rachel Bryant, 33, as they arrived at Susan Terrace. Police had been notified that the pair had traveled to Baltimore in order to purchase drugs and bring them back to Morgan County.
According to a criminal complaint filed in Morgan County Magistrate Court, an earlier search warrant executed at Bryant’s residence on Susan Terrace had shown signs of drug dealing there.
A search by Deputy Tony Link and his K9 of the vehicle occupied by the suspects ended in the location of a “stash” can containing 22 capsules and drug paraphernalia, police said.
Hovermale and Bryant were taken into custody and processed at the Morgan County Sheriff’s Department.
During interviews, Bryant allegedly admitted the two had gone to Baltimore for drugs and had sold some before being stopped by police.
Bohrer were assisted in the arrests by Chief T.J. Johnson of the Berkeley Springs Police Department, and Sheriff’s Department officers Capt. Tim Stapleton, Chief Walter, Deputy Tony Link and Cpl. Kevin Barney.
Hovermale and Byrant are being held at the Eastern Regional Jail in lieu of $20,000 bond each.
Sheriff Bohrer confirmed that Monday’s arrests were connected to ongoing investigations in the area.
Police have conducted several investigations in the trailer park in recent months, including an unattended death investigation in February and service of a search warrant at a Susan Terrace residence in March.
