Town oks water towers to hold communications equipment

by Trish Rudder

A request to place communications equipment on a water tower in Berkeley Springs was made by a local internet provider a few years ago. Before allowing the water towers to hold the provider’s equipment, the town-owned water department – Berkeley Springs Water Works (BSSW) – developed a policy setting up rules to follow and rates for providers to pay for space on the towers.

Councilman Chris Chapman, who chairs the water committee, presented the request to the council and worked with the water department to finalize a policy, which was unanimously approved by the Bath Town Council on June 4.

The five BSWW water towers in Berkeley Springs are on Warm Springs Ridge northwest of Ridersville Cycle; on Warm Springs Ridge behind Berkeley Castle; on Fairview Drive by the Warm Springs Middle School; on Myers Road above Catawba Club Apartments; and at the Pines Opportunity Center.

Interested parties can view the BSWW policy online soon on the Town of Bath website, said Town Clerk Sharron Corrick.
