Streetscapes work, Mozier star to be dedicated at April 24 event

by Trish Rudder

Streetscape committee member, Rebecca MacLeod said a “Taste of the Town” event is scheduled for Saturday, April 24 that includes a dedication to Jeanne Mozier and a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Congress Street.

At the April 6 Bath Town Council meeting, MacLeod said at 9:30 a.m. there will be an unveiling and dedication of “Jeanne’s Star” in front of the Star Theatre on Washington Street.

One of three rain gardens installed on Congress Street as part of flood control and sidewalk improvements.

Mozier, who passed away in late November, owned and operated the Star Theatre for more than 40 years with her husband Jack Soronen before selling it two years ago.

Mozier was very active in the town and promoted Berkeley Springs for decades.

At 10:15 a.m. a Streetscapes Ribbon Cutting on Congress Street is scheduled.

The Streetscapes Phase 4A improvements project included Washington Street from Congress to Independence streets and Congress Street from Wilkes to Washington streets.

Three rain gardens were installed on Congress Street to capture stormwater runoff that helps reduce flooding.

From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Streetscapes members will provide guided rain garden tours, MacLeod said.

The Streetscapes project was helped through funding efforts from the Town of Bath, the Chesapeake Bay Trust, WV Department of Environmental Protection, Morgan County Commission, U.S. Silica, Delectable Mountains Quilt Guild, Eastern WV Community Foundation, WV Division of Forestry and the WV Division of Highways.

The Chesapeake Bay Trust grant was used for the shrubs and pollinator plants in the Congress Street rain gardens. A WV Division of Forestry grant was used for all the new trees, MacLeod said.

Additional support was provided by the Foxglove Garden Club, Warm Springs Watershed Association and the Eastern Panhandle Regional Planning and Development Council.

Live music, vendor booths and a Streetscapes/Town of Bath information table will also be part of the event.
