The Morgan County Sheriff’s Department will move to their new location behind Food Lion starting this Friday.

Offices for the Morgan County Sheriff’s Department will be closed this Friday, October 4 and again next Monday and Tuesday while the agency moves from the county courthouse complex to their new station at 226 Gayle Drive, behind the Food Lion.

Sheriff K.C. Bohrer said the department’s administrative operations will be suspended during the move, but police response will not.

“Be assured there will be no interruption in emergency response to calls,” he said in an announcement last week.

The Sheriff’s Law Office will be closed on Friday, October 4; Monday, October 7 and Tuesday, October 8.

Anyone having trouble reaching the administrative line for the Sheriff’s Department at 304-258-1067 can call the department via the county’s non-emergency 911 line at 304-258-0305.

The new station, located in the former Dr. Hashem’s medical office, will house the Sheriff’s Department offices, Home Confinement program and the Deputy Reserves. The Sheriff’s Tax Office will remain at the same location in the county courthouse.

Sheriff Bohrer proposed the move to Gayle Drive earlier this year. He told county officials it was one way to solve the need for a new county 911 center. The move of the Sheriff’s Department to the former doctor’s office will leave the courthouse annex office open for Morgan County 911 operations.

The county already owned the former doctor’s office, which was part of the War Memorial Hospital property holdings.

For several years, county officials have talked about building a new 911 center or renovating an existing county property to house the dispatch center. Much of the infrastructure needed for the 911 center is already part of the Sheriff’s Department office.

The Morgan County Commission has spent roughly $180,000 on upgrading the building and property where the Sheriff’s Department will now operate.

The new Sheriff’s Department station can be reached by turning into Gayle Drive, located between the parking lots of the Rite Aid pharmacy and McDonald’s.
