The Morgan County school board will hold two hearings about a proposed school calendar for the 2019-2020 school year. The calendar is available for review on the Morgan County Schools website.
The first hearing will be held at 7 p.m. during the next school board meeting on Tuesday, February 19 at Berkeley Springs High School. A second hearing is set for Tuesday, March 5 at 7 p.m. at the school board meeting being held at Widmyer Elementary.
Board members are seeking comments from parents and community members about the proposed calendar, which sets the opening dates of school, holidays and graduation dates.
The proposed calendar sets the first day of school for students on August 19, 2019 and the last day of the instructional term at May 29, 2020. Additional days are built into the calendar in June in case school is closed during the year for inclement weather or other reasons.
The calendar includes a full week of vacation for students for Thanksgiving and Spring Break, nine days off for winter holidays and several days of staff training, Faculty Senate and curriculum development. In total, the calendar includes 180 days of instruction for Morgan County public school students, as required by state law.
Anyone with comments about the proposed calendar can make them during the two public hearings or submit them via email to bbuser@k12.wv.us or by calling 304-258-2430 x2018.
The school board will formally adopt next year’s school calendar at their March 19 meeting.
