Ruth H. Ward

1923-2018

Ruth Harmison Ward, 94, Charles Town, died Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at her home.

Born May 6, 1923 in Johnstown, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Morgan Samuel Harmison and Nellie Blanche Custer Harmison.

She was a graduate of Berkeley Springs High School, Columbia Business School in Hagerstown, Md. and the IBM School in Baltimore, Md.

She was employed at the Berkeley Springs Cold Storage, Soil Conservation Commission in Berkeley Springs, Pangborn Corp, Hagerstown, Kodiak Alaska Military Library as head librarian and Joseph R. Harris Co. in Alexandria, Va. as the assistant manager. She was a member of the Roman Catholic Parish of St. James the Greater, Charles Town. She was a member of the USO in Hagerstown, Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge and attained the office of Jr. Regent and a member of the Daughter’s of the American Revolution in Charles Town for over 60 years.

She is survived by one daughter, Mary Ward; seven grandchildren; one niece and two nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, John A. Ward whom she married November 30, 1946; one son, John Ward II; one brother, Morgan Harmison III and two sisters, Natalie Morrow and Carol Harmison Ditto.

A Memorial Mass was held Tuesday, April 3 at St. James Catholic Church in Charles Town. Rev. Father John Ledford as the Celebrant.
