Robert Samuel Redding, age 90, of Hedgesville, W.Va., died Sunday, July 19, 2020 at his home while under care of Hospice of the Panhandle.

He was a member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church.

Born June 6, 1930 in Seat Pleasant, Md., he was the son of the late George Ellyson and Mary Theresa Lincoln Redding.

Bob graduated from Maryland Park High School and for a time played professional baseball for the Washington Senator’s organization.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and received an honorable discharge in June 1952.

He was a member of IBEW Local 26 and worked as an electrician for many years while attending night school and receiving a law degree from Maryland University. He practiced law while serving three terms in the Maryland House of Delegates. He retired as an Administrative Judge from Maryland Worker’s Compensation Commission.

Surviving are his wife Janet Marie Cissel Redding; his children, Christopher Edwin Redding and wife Pamela of Lancaster, Ohio, Robert Steven Redding and wife Kristie of Martinsburg, W.Va., Leslie Redding Gincley of Middletown, Md. and Matthew John Redding and wife Sheree of Hedgesville, W.Va.; one son-in-law Warren Case of White Plaines, Md. and one sister Joan Redding Tippett of Lusby, Md.; 17 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by daughter, Susan Elizabeth Case; son-in-law, Glenn Thomas Gincley; two sisters and two brothers.

The Funeral Mass and Internment will be private. A celebration of his life will be held at a safer time.
